HAAS was founded by Glynn Venter on the model of a ‘collective’; an agency working along side a a design gallery, concept store and coffee house in the Bo-Kaap. They wanted to develop a creative hub that would attract creative talent and also facilitate interesting collaborations and conversations, all with a little help from their own amazing single origin coffee. HAAS have achieved their aim of being one of the best coffee and conversation destinations in the country and while frequenting their Bo-Kaap coffee shop I met Glynn and we started conversations on developing a new visual style for the VA Waterfront.
The Waterfront is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the country with over 23 million visitors a year. They had already developed a substantial library of landscape architectural imagery and our aim was to develop the lifestyle and experiential element of the brand. Our brief was to also combine the Waterfront’s unique blend of working harbour with the countrys premier fashion, retail and food destination.
We cast groups of friends, couples and personalities that would best suit the visitor profile visiting the Waterfront and after a week of shooting, we could see how we were creating an amazing new feel for the destination and the brand.
